Ink non-stick coating for newspaper printers

Every printer has the same problem with his printing press: cleaning the guide rolls in the press to prevent smeared ink on the paper. Wouldn‘t it be nice to eliminate the task?
Guide rolls in web offset printing presses often serve only to steer or divert the web. However, the demands placed on such rolls should not be underestimated. For example, they must be strong enough to absorb the enormous force of the paper web that runs over the rolls at high speed and great tension without wearing or deflecting. They should also be able to resist ink mist and paper dust in the machine and be easy to clean.
When very little ink adheres to the guide rolls, cleaning intervals are much longer than before. This not only reduces printing press downtime, it also saves expensive clean-ing agents - usually savings of about 25%. Since the rolls are easier to clean, the time required is less. This means that the cost of producing the newspaper is less and, at the same time, the printing quality is higher.
Impreglon developed a special PlasmaCoat® surface for guide rolls in newspaper printing presses for the company Gamag AG in Switzerland. A special fluoropolymer layer is embedded in the thermally sprayed metal matrix with a hardness of 60 HRc. The coating combines high resistance to wear with excellent nonstick properties for ink.
